Problems with Ferrari Brakes: Brembo Surprised by Leclerc’s Blame Game
Supplier Brembo, the provider of brakes for Ferrari, expressed great surprise after Charles Leclerc attributed his Monaco Grand Prix crash to issues with his Formula 1 car’s brakes. The Monegasque driver was on track for a third-place finish when he crashed at Antony Noghes corner, causing an early exit to his race.
Leclerc’s Brake Woes
Leclerc’s struggles with braking were not new, as these troubles persisted from the Montreal race. Frustrated with the alleged brake failure, he voiced his complaints both on the radio during the race and later to the media after retiring. According to Leclerc, out of the four brakes, three were not functioning properly, rendering his car uncontrollable.
He mentioned, “I could never switch them on again, nothing was working anymore. I tried to do many actions in the car to try and help it. The only solution I had was to not brake in the last corner, but I would have crashed in Turn 1.”
Brembo’s Response
Following Leclerc’s accusations, Brembo defended the reliability of its brake components, labeling the driver’s statements as premature. The long-standing partnership between Brembo and Scuderia Ferrari was highlighted, emphasizing the solid collaboration between the two entities.
The company stated, “The company is currently unaware of the causes of the problems encountered by Charles Leclerc and therefore believes it is premature to make definitive technical assessments before analyzing the available data.”
Despite the differing accounts between Leclerc and Brembo, the driver asserted that the issue had been addressed ahead of the upcoming Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
As the debate continues over the cause of Leclerc’s crash, his switch to a new brake configuration for the next race adds an interesting twist to the ongoing saga.
