Martin Brundle Urges FIA to Address Flawed F1 Power Delivery

Martin Brundle has raised concerns regarding the power delivery system in Formula 1, labeling it as “fundamentally flawed” following a high-speed crash involving Ollie Bearman at the Japanese Grand Prix. Bearman had to swerve to avoid Alpine’s Franco Colapinto, who was harvesting energy at the time, causing him to lose control and crash. Brundle defended Colapinto, attributing the incident to high closing speeds and the unpredictable behavior of modern power units with self-learning aspects. He emphasized the importance of safety in driver regulations, urging the FIA to prioritize addressing this issue to prevent further accidents. Brundle highlighted the need for a linear and proportional power delivery system to ensure driver control and avoid unexpected car behavior, emphasizing the significance of fan, marshal, and pitstop crew safety as well. The drivers’ concerns have been actively voiced through the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, signaling the necessity for immediate action from the FIA to address these critical safety issues in Formula 1.
