McLaren Chief Andrea Stella admits Ferrari still ahead in the race

McLaren’s team principal, Andrea Stella, expressed optimism about the team’s chances of challenging Ferrari for a podium finish at the Japanese Grand Prix. Despite a rough start to the season, McLaren showed improvement at the Suzuka circuit with Oscar Piastri qualifying in third place and Lando Norris in fifth. Stella attributed this progress to enhancements in the chassis, set-up, and power unit performance. However, he acknowledged that Ferrari still holds an edge over McLaren, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton starting the race ahead of their drivers. While Stella remained cautious about McLaren’s podium prospects, he noted the team’s continuous improvement and emphasized the need for upgrades to compete more effectively in future races. Looking ahead, McLaren aims to enhance their car’s performance to eventually challenge for race victories.
