Ducati Believes in Status Quo Amid Gresini-Honda Rumours

Ducati’s satellite team structure in MotoGP seems to be stable beyond 2026, despite uncertainties surrounding Gresini Racing’s future with the Italian manufacturer. During the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, discussions in the paddock focused on Ducati’s satellite team line-up for the 2027 regulations cycle. While VR46 has a long-term agreement in place, Gresini’s position has been scrutinized following recent developments in the rider market.
VR46 has signed a five-year deal with Ducati, covering 2025-26 with a potential extension through to 2029. Despite some interest from Aprilia, VR46 has reaffirmed its commitment to Ducati. However, tension arose when Ducati decided to move Fermin Aldeguer, currently associated with Gresini, to VR46 for the next season. The unexpected decision left Gresini boss Nadia Padovani upset, casting doubt on the team’s future with Ducati.
While speculation emerged about Gresini’s possible negotiations with Honda, these reports were denied by the Japanese manufacturer. In an attempt to address the situation, Ducati’s sporting director Mauro Grassilli met with Padovani in the Goiania paddock, along with Gresini team manager Michele Masini. The meeting provided some reassurance, with Grassilli hinting that all would be clarified following the United States GP.
Though the satellite team structure with VR46 and Gresini is likely to remain intact, changes in the rider line-up are expected. Pedro Acosta could join the factory squad, and Ducati is considering a new model where partner teams contribute financially to rider salaries. Such negotiations are ongoing, but a renewed partnership between Ducati and Gresini is anticipated in the near future. Ducati team boss Davide Tardozzi expressed confidence in Gresini remaining part of the marque’s 2027 roster, underscoring the team’s value and commitment to staying with Ducati.
