Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo believes Formula 1 should not align its rules with the all-electric championship, insisting that F1 should remain true to its core principles. This year, F1 underwent significant technical changes, particularly in chassis and engine regulations, with the electrical component now contributing up to 50% of the total power output. Some drivers compared the new energy management requirements in F1 to that of Formula E, criticizing the direction F1 has taken. Longo, while remaining a fan of F1, expressed concern that F1’s latest regulations may detract from the spectacle of the sport.
Despite similarities between the two championships, Formula E co-founder Longo also shared insights on Formula E potentially serving as a testing ground for new circuits, especially with the introduction of the more powerful Gen4 car in the 2026-27 season. He highlighted Formula E’s flexibility in adapting to various types of venues compared to F1. Additionally, Longo predicted that F1 would increasingly rely on Formula E personnel and expertise as F1 embraces more electrical technology in the future. This collaboration may extend to technical staff, engineers, and even drivers transitioning between the two series.
